🏗️ West Stanly Senior Center Project Moves Forward with Funding
The Stanly County Board of Commissioners has approved the transfer of $750,000 into the general
fund to support the West Stanly Senior Center project in Locust.
County Manager Andy Lucas described it as a “unique partnership” between the county and the City
of Locust, with the senior center being built adjacent to the existing library facility.
“We committed the funds two years ago. This budget amendment makes those funds
available as the project begins,” said Lucas.
- Construction begins Monday, July 14
- Ribbon cutting set for Thursday, July 10 at 10:00 AM
- Completion is estimated for August 2026
- Cinderella Partners, based in Indian Trail, won the construction bid
- Locust is contributing significantly more than half the total cost
The $750,000 is strictly to help offset construction expenses — not for furniture or equipment
📱 New Stanly County Sheriff’s App Offers Safety Tools for Residents
Commissioner Bill Lawhon highlighted a new mobile app released by the Stanly County Sheriff’s
Office, calling it “very interesting” and a useful tool for citizens concerned with local safety.
Search “Stanly County Sheriff” in your smartphone’s app store to download it for free.
Features include:
- 📍 Sex Offender Locator: Shows offenders’ names, photos, and addresses by town
- Over 50 listed in Albemarle alone
- 🚨 Jail Info: Live data on current inmates
- Charges, booking dates, and bond amounts
- 📲 Accessible to all county residents
“If I can avoid living near a sex offender, I want to know,” said Lawhon. “This app gives
you that power.”
He also offered a reflection on Independence Day:
“We live in the best country in the world. Even with our problems, they’re small compared
to other places. I’m thankful I was born in the USA.”
