🕯️ Badin Mourns Councilwoman Dolores Chambers

The Town of Badin is grieving the loss of Councilwoman Dolores Chambers, a dedicated public servant and beloved leader who served the community for more than 31 years.

  • Chambers was remembered as a tireless advocate for equitable housing, youth and family programs, and ensuring every voice was heard.
  • Mayor DeMar Huntley said, “Councilwoman Chambers was the heart of our community. She believed in bringing people together and building bridges, and in doing the hard work of creating a town that works for everyone.”
  • A proud mother, grandmother, and lifelong resident of Badin, Chambers was also deeply active in local faith and civic organizations.

➡️ The Badin Town Council will honor her life and legacy during its September 9 meeting.
➡️ Visitation is set for Friday, September 5 at 10:00 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church in New London, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM.

💧 Emergency Repair Approved for Water Line

The Stanly County Commissioners have approved a $284,000 budget amendment for emergency repairs on the McCoy’s Creek force main water pipe along Barbee’s Grove Church Road.

  • County Manager Andy Lucas explained the old ductile iron pipe has deteriorated to the point that “the gases in that line have essentially turned it into paper in places.”
  • The section was replaced with PVC pipe after a recent break.
  • The repair was handled by DRS, a local company that also performed emergency work on the same line earlier this year.

This line is part of the upcoming West Stanly Wastewater Treatment Plant Project, which aims to fully replace both force mains with durable PVC piping.
