🚌 Commissioners Approve Transportation Grant

The Stanly County Commissioners have approved a $60,000 grant application to expand transportation services for older adults.

  • The Senior Services Department is seeking funding through the NCDOT Capital Purchase of Service Grant for FY 2027.
  • The money will allow Stanly County to purchase additional service hours from SCUSA, going beyond what is covered by HCCBG funds.

Pamela Sullivan, Senior Services Director, told commissioners:

“We’re asking for $60,000 to provide additional transportation services above what we receive in our HCCBG funding.”

Commissioners noted the grant is applied for annually.

🎭 Powerful Evening of Theater and History

The Stanly County Historical Society, in partnership with the Stanly County Arts Council and the America 250 Stanly Committee, will host an evening with acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley.

  • 📅 Thursday, September 25th, 7:00 PM
  • 📍 Albemarle Neighborhood Theater
  • 🎟️ Admission is free (first come, first served)

Wiley will present his one-man show One Noble Journey: The Box Marked Freedom, the true story of Henry Box Brown, who escaped slavery in 1849 by mailing himself in a wooden crate to Philadelphia.

Organizers say the performance offers a moment for reflection as the nation prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
