🚓 Hit-and-Run Victim Identified

Albemarle Police have identified the victim in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on October 1st.

  • The victim was 49-year-old Nathan Wayne Hollingsworth of Albemarle.
  • The crash happened around 2:11 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Austin Paul Byrd, also of Albemarle, fled the scene.
  • Byrd was later taken into custody and charged with:
    • Driving While Impaired
    • Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Death

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Albemarle Police at 704-984-9519.


🏛️ Resident Calls for Accountability in Richfield Leadership

A Richfield resident is calling for more transparency in how local leaders are vetted.

Jennifer Lin spoke before Stanly County Commissioners, raising concerns over the recent appointment of Richfield’s new mayor, which she says occurred without a background check or public presentation.

“Our community values trust, accountability, and transparency,” Lin said. “Those who hold public office should meet the same standards expected of school volunteers or part-time employees.”

She urged county officials to consider creating standardized vetting procedures for elected and appointed positions to help restore public trust.


🚒 West Stanly Fire Reports Busy September

The West Stanly Fire Department responded to 85 calls during the month of September.
That brings their year-to-date total to 946.

  • 8 working fires
  • 2 extrications
  • 2 flyouts
  • 2 water rescues

🧱 North Stanly Students Excel at Bricklayer 500

Students from North Stanly High School earned top honors at the Bricklayer 500 competition.

  • Bo Helms, Spencer Jones, and Henry Smith placed third in the block-laying division
  • They also took first place in the mud-spreading event

The school credited Mr. Almond for his “excellent teaching, guidance, and commitment to student success.”

“We’re proud of our students and the mentorship that makes North Stanly a leader in career and technical education,” the school said.


👮 New Officer Joins Albemarle Police

The Albemarle Police Department has welcomed Officer Hogan, who brings several years of law enforcement experience.
After completing the department’s seven-week field training program, Officer Hogan will join the Criminal Investigation Division.
Residents are encouraged to say hello if they see her around town.


💙 Donation to GHA Autism Supports

Uwharrie Bank and Executive Vice President David Rudisillpresented a check for $1,350 to GHA Autism Supports as part of the Denim Difference Day fundraiser.
Dawn Allen, GHA’s President and CEO, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.


🏈 Big Winner in North Stanly Booster Club Raffle

A lucky winner took home $28,770 in the North Stanly Booster Club fundraiser drawing held before Friday night’s football game.
