🚔 Two Arrested in Albemarle Meth Trafficking Investigation

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Stephanie Higgins and Robert Segrell on charges related to trafficking methamphetamine within the City of Albemarle.

  • Investigators with the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit and Special Operations Group conducted a traffic stop on October 20th after a K-9 alerted on the vehicle.
  • A search led to the discovery of illegal substances, and both suspects were charged with:
    • Trafficking methamphetamine
    • Possession with intent to distribute
    • Maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances
    • Conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine

Both individuals are being held at the Stanly County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Jeff Crisco said his office remains “dedicated to eliminating harmful substances from our community” and thanked residents for their continued support and tips.

🏙️ Albemarle Land Use Plan Open House Today

The City of Albemarle is holding an Open House today to gather community input on its Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

City Manager Darren Rhodes says two identical sessions will be held in Council Chambers:

  • 1:00–2:30 PM
  • 6:00–7:30 PM

Residents are encouraged to view the draft plan, share feedback, and suggest revisions before it moves to the Planning Board and then to City Council.

Rhodes also noted a few updates for the city:

  • The annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat will take place October 30th from 5–7:30 PM.
  • Leaf collection season is underway.
  • He congratulated the Albemarle Police Department for a successful Community Night Out event.

🏅 City Clerk Honored for Professional Achievement

Albemarle City Clerk Christina Brown has earned her School of Government Certification from the UNC Institute of Government after completing roughly 120 hours of training.

Councilman Bill Aldridge recognized her during this week’s City Council meeting, saying:

“Congratulations to our city clerk. Thanks for all you do for us.”


🌟 Stanly County Schools Celebrate October ‘Stanly Stars’

Stanly County Schools honored several outstanding employees for their dedication and excellence. Among those recognized:

  • Kennedy Kirby, Secretary at Badin Elementary – praised for her positive attitude, multitasking skills, and early-morning energy.
  • Heather Nance, 3rd Grade Teacher at Badin Elementary – achieved a 95% proficiency rate in math last year and maintained perfect attendance.
  • Julie Hunt, Data Manager at North Stanly High – credited with ensuring a smooth transition to the new Infinite Campus system and supporting staff with scheduling and data accuracy.

Applause and gratitude were shared at the Stanly County Board of Education meeting for their commitment to students and staff alike.
