🏥 The Albemarle City Council has approved a resolution supporting a building reuse grant application
The Albemarle City Council has approved a resolution supporting a building reuse grant application to the North Carolina Department of Commerce. The grant would help fund renovations of 410 Pee Dee Avenue into a rural health clinic.

  • The project represents $3 million in private investment.
  • It’s expected to create 27 new jobs with an average salary of $99,000.
  • The city will provide a local cash match of up to $16,875, equal to 5% of the grant award.

A public hearing on the project will be held at the council’s next meeting.


🚔 Albemarle Police Report: Crime Down 12% This Year
The Albemarle Police Department released its September activity report, showing a steady decline in overall crime.

  • Officers responded to over 2,300 calls for service last month.
  • No homicides occurred in September, and only one homicide has been reported all year — a case that has already been closed with an arrest.
  • There were no reported rapes and just one robbery, which police say was not random.
  • Four aggravated assaults were reported, with three resulting in arrests.
  • Overall crime is down 12% year-to-date compared to 2024.

Drug enforcement highlights for September:

  • 7 felony and 16 misdemeanor drug arrests
  • Seized: 972 grams of marijuana, 7 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of crack cocaine, 3 fentanyl pills, 7 grams of fentanyl, and 1 gram of methamphetamine
  • $19,000 in cash confiscated from drug-related activity

Traffic enforcement included 59 speeding citations, 2 reckless driving cases, and 3 DWI arrests.

🏃‍♀️ South Stanly Cross Country Shines at Regionals
Congratulations to the South Stanly High School cross country teams for an outstanding performance at the regional meet this weekend.

  • Kenadie Baker won the 2A Girls Regional Championship.
  • Baker, along with Mary Honeycutt, Hayden Jernigan, and Mason Teeter, qualified for the State Championship on October 31.
  • Both boys and girls teams finished 7th overall.

🍎 Stanly County Schools Recognize October “Stanly Stars”

The Stanly County Board of Education honored several outstanding educators during their October meeting.

  • EC Teacher of the Year:Ms. Lisc, North Stanly Middle School
    • Recognized for her exceptional work with students needing extra support.

Stanly Stars for October:

  • Laura Almond, Math Teacher, North Stanly High School — praised for her dedication to students and passion for teaching (recognized in abstention).
  • Liddy Bray, Third Grade Teacher, Richfield Elementary — described as a “dedicated team player” who “balances high expectations with care and encouragement.”
  • Taylor Shue, Richfield Elementary — recognized for her “positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to do whatever is needed.”
