🏗️ Groundbreaking Held for New West Stanly Senior Center
A large crowd gathered in Locust Thursday morning for the official groundbreaking of the long-anticipated West Stanly Senior Center.
📍 Location: Town Center, Locust
👷♂️ Size: 6,500 sq. ft. single-story building
🛠️ Construction: Begins today (Monday), expected completion by Spring 2026
👥 Leaders Involved: Stanly County Commissioners, Locust City Council, NC state officials, YMCA, West Stanly Foundation
Town Manager César Correa called it “the beginning of the future” for senior services in western Stanly County.
Senior Services Director Pam Sullivan says the facility will allow the county to bring both nutrition and senior programs under one roof to better serve older adults.
Contractor Ross Watson of Cinderella Partners confirmed work starts this week.
🌳 Albemarle Declares July as Parks and Recreation Month
Mayor Ronnie Michael and the Albemarle City Council issued a proclamation recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month.
The declaration emphasizes the role parks play in:
• Promoting physical and mental wellness
• Supporting childhood development through youth sports and education
• Enhancing economic development and property values
• Protecting the environment and building community resilience
Local parks and rec staff were praised for their dedication and impact on Albemarle’s quality of life.
