🎉 Road Closures Approved for Fall Events
The Albemarle City Council approved several upcoming street closures:
- October 18 – Uwharrie Brewing Oktoberfest
- October 25 – Badin Brews Oktoberfest
- October 30 – Fall Festival & Kids’ Costume Parade on West Main Street
Council members raised concerns about safety near First Street, where food trucks and activities were set up last year.
- Lindsey Almond, EDDC Director, explained that this year’s layout will be adjusted for safety and a better flow.
- Lisa Kiser, Albemarle Parks & Rec Director, added: “We discussed consolidating the footprint so everyone is in a tighter, safer space. Events that were at First and Main will now be in Courthouse Plaza.”
⚡ Albemarle Receives Four Public Power Awards
The City of Albemarle’s Electric Division was honored with four Public Power Awards of Excellence from ElectriCities.
Awards included:
- Future Focus
- Strength in Public Power
- Customer-Centered Innovation
- People
Highlights of the recognition:
- Development of a long-term strategic plan for competitiveness and customer needs.
- Introduction of a new billing and outage management system to improve response time.
- Recognition for radio broadcast outreach promoting reliable, locally controlled power.
- Continued investment in employee training and retention.
ElectriCities officials praised Albemarle’s reliability record, noting it outperforms Duke Energy and many co-ops:
“Your crews are right here, not two hours away. When the lights go out, they’re there to get it fixed.”
