🏛️ Albemarle City Council Meets Tonight

The Albemarle City Council meets this evening at 6:30 PM for their regular monthly meeting.

  • A proclamation for Constitution Week will be considered.
  • Albemarle High School Principal Beverly Pennington will share a report on state test results.
  • Department reports are also scheduled.

🏫 Joint Meeting Planned on Schools Grant

The Stanly County Board of Education and the Stanly County Commissioners will meet jointly on Monday, September 22nd at 6:00 PM.

  • Location: Jean McIntyre Room, 1000 North First Street, Albemarle
  • Purpose: To discuss the NC Department of Instruction needs-based grant application.

💰 Wastewater Project Budget Concerns

At its last meeting, Albemarle City Council amended the Long Creek Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project budget, raising concerns over rising costs.

  • Councilman Chris Bramlett expressed frustration: “We had a project that was $997,000, and then all of a sudden it’s gone to $3 million 173. Don’t we ever do anything within budget?”
  • City finance staff explained that the increases cover engineering, design, and construction management costs, with funding approved by the state.
  • Permits for construction are under review, with a 6–8 month approval period expected.

Mayor Ronnie Michael also addressed the need for the amendments, citing state consent orders for wastewater compliance.


🔧 Boiler Repairs Approved at Badin Elementary

The Stanly County School Board approved a $50,000 boiler repair project at Badin Elementary School.

  • Southern Mechanical Services was awarded the bid at $50,334, the lowest of three submitted.
  • Facilities director explained this covers repairs only, not a full replacement, which would be significantly more costly.

👮 Albemarle Welcomes New Police Officer

The Albemarle Police Department has sworn in Officer Moore, a graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Stanly Community College.

  • Swearing-in ceremony was held at police headquarters with family, friends, and fellow officers present.
  • Residents are encouraged to welcome Officer Moore when they see him around town.

🏈 High School Football – Precision Mechanical Scoreboard

This week’s football recap:

  • West Stanly Colts traveled to face Central Eagles, falling 35–14.
  • South Stanly, Albemarle, and North Stanly all had bye weeks.
