🚨 Trailer Theft Arrests
Two men have been arrested after a series of trailer thefts across Stanly County.
- The Sheriff’s Office says three stolen trailers — one from Richfield, another from Mount Pleasant, and a third from Albemarle — have been recovered and returned to their owners.
- A stolen U-Haul box truck was also located along Albemarle’s sewer line.
Charged in the case are Larry Wayne Earnhardt Jr. and Timothy James Leggett.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized:
“We are dedicated to recovering stolen property for the citizens and holding accountable those who refuse to respect others’ property.”
Residents with information on property crimes can submit tips through the Sheriff’s Office website.
🚧 Highway 52 Crash in Albemarle
The Albemarle Police Department has released details on a multi-vehicle accident that closed Highway 52 near Old Charlotte Road earlier this week.
- Investigators say a tractor trailer owned by Nolan Logging and Chipping Company rear-ended a stopped car, then sideswiped a pickup truck and trailer.
- The impact sent the car into oncoming traffic, where it struck another vehicle.
- The pickup and trailer jackknifed after over correcting.
Police estimate $50,000 in damages to the vehicles involved. The highway was closed for cleanup and investigation
âš˝ Locust Parks & Rec Survey Results
Locust Parks and Recreation says parents gave “overwhelmingly positive” feedback in a recent survey — but also raised a few concerns.
Key issues identified:
- Scheduling: No late games for kids under six, and Saturday-only soccer games will cut down on weeknight conflicts.
- Program Costs: Some families raised concerns about non-resident fees. Officials emphasized that Locust taxpayers already fund facilities, and non-resident fees help balance costs fairly.
- Communication: Coaches are being encouraged to use apps like GameChanger and GroupMe for updates, with a new mid-season check-in survey also being added.
Volunteer coaches will also see new incentives:
- Returning non-resident coaches will pay the resident rate.
- Returning resident coaches will receive one free child registration each season.
This fall, Locust has 102 baseball players and 236 soccer players, with nearly all coaches returning — which officials say means a smoother season ahead.
