🧗 Rock Therapy Plans Climbing Gym in Locust

Rock Therapy, known for its mobile rock climbing wall at events across the region, is planning to open a permanent indoor climbing facility in the Meadow Creek Business Park in Locust.

Owner Zach Rena appeared before the Locust City Council to request a conditional zoning change to allow for indoor recreation at the commercial site.

• Indoor rock climbing walls
• Yoga room and community room with outdoor patios
• Natural light design
• Located at 124 Lorie Lane, Locust (Meadow Creek Business Park)

“Rock Therapy aims to provide an approach to indoor climbing that promotes physical wellness, community engagement, and economic activity,” said Rena. “We’re committed to a community-friendly design.”

The Locust Planning & Zoning Board recommended approval, and the Locust City Council unanimously approved the rezoning request.


📚 New Appointments to the Stanly County Library Board

The Stanly County Board of Commissioners has approved three appointments to the Library Board of Trustees, following recommendations from Library Director Sarah Hahn:

👤 Appointed Trustees:
Katie Mayo – to fill the unexpired term of Anissa Myatt (ends June 30, 2028)
Kimberly Marshall – reappointed to a new term through June 30, 2029
Suzanne Honeycutt – appointed as trustee and liaison to the Friends of the Library board through June 30, 2029

The motion passed unanimously on Monday.


⚾ Stanly County’s Ethan Young Drafted by St. Louis Cardinals

Ethan Young, a Harrisburg native and pitcher for East Carolina University and the Uwharrie Wampus Cats, was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 5th round (150th overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft.

🎯 Draft Highlights:
• 30th Pirate drafted under ECU head coach Cliff Godwin
• 133rd overall draft pick in ECU history
• First-ever Wampus Cats player to be drafted

📊 2025 Stats:
• 23 games pitched
• 5–0 record, 3 saves
• 3.84 ERA over 70.1 innings
• 92 strikeouts

The Wampus Cats said they are “excited for our first ever Wampus Cats draft pick” and proud of Young’s success since pitching for their inaugural team in 2023.
