⛈️ Sign Up for Emergency Alerts
The City of Albemarle says residents can now sign up for severe weather and emergency notifications from Stanly County Government.
- Alerts can be sent by phone call, text message, or email.
- You can customize which notifications you receive, including updates from Albemarle, Locust, New London, Norwood, Misenheimer, Oakboro, Red Cross, Richfield, Stanfield, and other municipalities.
- Sign-up links are available on the City of Albemarle Government Facebook page.
🏪 Family Dollar Sold
Dollar Tree has officially completed the sale of Family Dollar to Brigade Capital Management and Kellum Capital Management for just over $1 billion.
- Dollar Tree originally purchased Family Dollar a decade ago for $8.5 billion.
- The new owners plan to operate Family Dollar as a private retailer headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia.
- Dollar Tree CEO Mike Rendon said, “We are doubling down on what we do best — delivering value, convenience, and discovery to our customers every day.”
🏞️ Norwood Selling Lake Tillery Property
The Town of Norwood is selling a 0.4-acre lot on South Strand Drive at Lake Tillery.
- Highest current offer: $30,000.
- The sale is through the upset bid process, with a minimum new bid of $31,550.
- Bids must be submitted to the Town Clerk by Monday, August 25th at 11:00 AM with a 5% deposit.

🏛️ Locust Council Meeting Date Change
The City of Locust will hold its next council meeting on Thursday, August 21st at 7:00 PM in the Joel Honeycutt Community Room.
- The meeting was moved from the usual second Thursday (August 14) when the 2024 schedule was adopted in December.
🚓 Stanly Sheriff’s Cadet Program
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applicants for its Sheriff’s Cadets Program.
- Open to students in 6th grade through age 20.
- Participants learn about law enforcement, work with public safety agencies, and assist at community events.
- Requirements include strong ethics, leadership qualities, and no criminal or school disciplinary history.
- Interest meeting: Monday, September 9th at 6:00 PM at the Sheriff’s Office.

🚑 Stanly EMS Chief Earns Top Certification
Dale Chandler, EMS Chief of Stanly County EMS, has earned the EMS Officer Certification – Executive Level from the North Carolina Association of EMS Administrators.
- This is the highest EMS leadership recognition in the state.
- The award was presented last week in Asheville.
🐕 Norwood PD Welcomes K-9 Mox
The Norwood Police Department has added a new K-9 officer, Mox, to its team.
- Mox is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, born in Germany
- On August 4, 2025 he was Certified by the National Police Canine Association in narcotics detection, article searches, tracking, apprehension, and handler protection.
