🏗 SCC Opens State-of-the-Art Trades Facility

A major step forward for workforce development in Stanly County—Stanly Community College’s new Trades Facility is officially open and drawing praise from local leaders.

  • The Economic Development Commission toured the building Monday, highlighting its role in expanding training for high-demand jobs.
  • Jeff Parsons, Vice President for Academic Affairs, said: “We’ve expanded enrollment in several programs. Welding’s a great example. This new lab is already close to full—which is a great problem to have.”
  • The 33-booth welding lab is just one feature. The facility also includes:
    • Construction trades, plumbing, and electrical labs designed for real-world teamwork
    • A new HVAC lab with indoor/outdoor spaces
    • CNC machining labs, industrial automation, robotics, and heavy equipment simulators

Devin Green, Associate VP for Advanced Manufacturing, called it “a facility that fills a niche we couldn’t serve before,” adding it will directly support industries critical to Stanly County.

🎓 President: ‘A Facility We Can Be Proud Of’

College President Dr. John Enamait says the project, though a year behind schedule, is already paying off:

“We’ve increased student capacity 100 percent in welding alone, and we’ve added new programs in construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. This is a facility Stanly County can be proud of for decades to come.”

Classes began last week, and nearly all trade students are expected to be employed by graduation. The EDC plans to promote the site as a powerful tool for attracting industry.

🏅 Register of Deeds Staff Honored

The Stanly County Register of Deeds is congratulating Kaylin Roland and Kelly Delia for completing the NC Association of Register of Deeds Analytical Ethics Seminar. Only 25 people statewide participated this year.
