🚔 Drug Trafficking Arrests
Two women face serious charges after a Monday arrest in Stanly County.
- 42-year-old Yoka Michelle McIntyre and 34-year-old Shantel Ceara Cole were charged with:
- Trafficking opium or heroin
- Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for drug activity
- Possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and distribute methamphetamine
- Conspiracy to traffic opium or heroin
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Both are being held at the Stanly County Detention Center under $750,000 bond.
👮 Kidnapping and Assault Charges
A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges following a weekend incident.
- Ethan Graham Ward was arrested and charged with:
- Second-degree kidnapping
- False imprisonment
- Assault on a female
- Domestic violence–related misdemeanor
- During his arrest, he picked up additional charges, including:
- Resisting a public officer
- Assault on a detention employee causing serious injury
- Assault on a government official
- Criminal contempt
- Ward is being held in the Stanly County Detention Center under a $90,000 bond.
🎓 SCC Joins National Education Network
Stanly Community College has been selected to join the Aspen Institute’s Unlocking Opportunity Network. The initiative works to ensure community college students leave with strong credentials and pathways to good-paying jobs or bachelor’s degrees.
SCC President Dr. John Enamait said:
“Being part of the Aspen Institute’s Unlocking Opportunity network strengthens our ability to connect students with high-value credentials that meet the demands of local employers and contribute to the economic vitality of Stanly County and beyond.”
SCC joins 54 other colleges nationwide, working over the next three years to review programs, improve advising, and expand access to degrees tied directly to high-demand jobs.
🍎 Aspiring Educator Conference
Stanly County Schools participated in the UNC Charlotte Aspiring Educator Conference.
- Scarlet Griffin, a senior at West Stanly High, served as the keynote speaker.
- Bella Dobbins, SCS Beginning Teacher of the Year from Stanfield Elementary, led a panel discussion on the realities of teaching.
- District leaders say the event highlights a bright future for local education.
🏘️ Norwood Property for Bid
The Town of Norwood has declared a 0.4-acre tract on South Strand Drive as surplus property and is accepting bids.
- Current bid: $55,000
- Next bid opening: Monday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m.
- Minimum bid required: $57,800 with a 5% deposit
- Offers can be submitted at Norwood Town Hall or mailed to P.O. Box 697.

📜 Constitution Week Proclaimed
The Daughters of the American Revolution – Yadkin River Patriot Chapter joined Albemarle City Council as Mayor Ronnie Michael read the official Constitution Week Proclamation.
Mayor Michael stated:
“I proclaim September 17th through 23rd, 2025, to be Constitution Week in Albemarle and ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the framework of the Constitution adopted in 1787.”
The celebration marks the 238th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.
