🏫 Stanly Community College Dedicates the New Brown Building

Stanly Community College officially dedicated its new trades facility Thursday with the unveiling of the Brown Building, named in honor of Richard Lane Brown III for his contributions to the college and community.

Around 100 dignitaries and local officials attended the ceremony celebrating the state-of-the-art facility that will provide hands-on learning for future skilled trades professionals.

College President Dr. John Enamait told WSPC the response from the public has been tremendous:

“The open house and tours exceeded our expectations. We’ve had residents from Stanly and surrounding counties come through the facility and rave about the opportunities it will provide to future students.”

The Board of Trustees named the facility in tribute to the Brown family for their role in helping establish Stanly Community College.

The Stanly County Board of Education has officially submitted its Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund grant application.

Chairwoman Robin Whittaker told the board the grant would fund:

  • A replacement school for Oakboro STEM
  • An addition to West Stanly Middle School

Whittaker expressed optimism:

“We’re going to speak this into existence. We’ll hear something in November, but we’re believing this will happen for us.”

She thanked the board, Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Dennis, and county officials for their efforts to meet the deadline.

The Albemarle Police Department is joining agencies statewide for Operation Crash Reduction, a campaign focused on combating dangerous driving behaviors.

This week, drivers will see increased patrols targeting:

  • Speeding
