🚓 Work Van Crashes into ATM in Midland
A serious crash in Midland Saturday night led to extensive damage and one critical injury.
- Around 9:14 p.m., a work van left the roadway at the intersection of NC 601 and NC 24/27, struck and snapped a telephone pole, then slammed into the ATM and Fifth Third Bank.
- Midland Fire & Rescue and West Stanly Fire Department responded, with Cabarrus EMS treating the patient and requesting MedCenter Air for a med-evac.
- The driver had to be extricated after the vehicle was stabilized.
- Cabarrus County deputies took possession of the ATM and its contents. Duke Power restored service Sunday morning.
- The incident involved 11 agencies from three counties and took about four hours to clear.
🏫 School Upgrades Ahead of New Year
Students returning to Stanly County Schools will notice multiple campus improvements completed over the summer. Facilities Director Keith Benton highlighted key projects:
- Richfield: Chiller replacement completed.
- West Stanly High: Roof replacement, gym repainting, new gym floor, and press box safety upgrades.
- North Stanly High: Media center carpet replaced with low-maintenance LVP flooring.
- Oakboro: 99% complete on renovations, including ADA accessibility upgrades and access control installation.
- Stanfield: Carpet removed from classrooms, replaced with VCT.
- South Stanly High: 100% of faucets replaced with ADA-compliant fixtures.
